Community Safety and Prevention Office
A modern approach to community safety requires bringing together enforcement, prevention, public education, and community participation. The Community Safety and Prevention Office will be Oakville’s permanent coordinating point, connecting municipal services with Halton Regional Police, Public Health, Crime Stoppers, and community partners. It builds on successful police and municipal coordination at major events and supports Halton’s Community Safety and Well-Being Plan, which Jeff supports — enhancing its impact in Oakville without replacing or compromising the Plan.
Neighbourhood Safety Audits — Work with residents, BIAs, condo boards, and ratepayer groups to identify vulnerabilities and recommend practical improvements such as better lighting, improved sightlines, CPTED measures, and appropriate camera placement.
Community Watch Expansion — Work with Crime Stoppers of Halton to expand the existing Community Watch program, using the Town’s credibility, communications reach, and resources to activate neighbourhoods, condo communities, and business districts.
Permanent Multi-Agency Community Safety Function — Establish a visible Town-led community safety presence at major events and in areas with recurring problems, working with Halton Regional Police and other agencies where their authorities are required.
Addressing Priority Issues — Coordinate action on concerns already raised by residents, including reckless e-scooter use, dangerous driving and street racing, excessive vehicle and motorcycle noise, illegal fireworks, disruptive gatherings, and other neighbourhood disturbances.
Public Health Coordination — Work with Halton Public Health to support its existing inspection and enforcement work involving vape and tobacco retailers, particularly illegal sales to young people.
Clear Public Safety Information — Turn existing police, municipal enforcement, and community safety information into clear, factual, neighbourhood-level updates that residents can understand and use.
